What The Heck is Wrong With Your Church?

Hey you over there! Ya you, the one walking into that building with a bible in your hand I need to tell you something. There is a problem with your church! I am not sure if you have truly noticed it before. It is not a new problem. It is a problem that has been around for a great deal of time. After being involved in many different churches and seeing many differing methods I have come to notice that your church like mine, has a problem. What’s wrong, why does that bother you?

Maybe at your church there is a great worship “band” as I have heard it said. Or maybe your Pastor has an eloquent way he delivers his message. Maybe he is a celebrity Pastor that people just love elevating. Maybe he elevates himself yet you still go there but there is something wrong with your church. Maybe your church has the best programs or children’s church but it still has a big, a huge problem. It really is not the building whether it be large or small or even if it is a mega church.

Your church has a problem and most likely you don’t even notice it because you would be offended if you knew the truth. I know, I know “who am I to tell you this about your church right?” I mean after all you love your church right, or else you wouldn’t go to it am I right? That is what I thought but that being said I still need to tell you what is wrong with Your church, MY church! The problem with my church, your church is YOU & ME! We are the problem not the Pastor or the worship group or the lack of programs or children’s church.

The problem is US!

WE are to BE the church of Jesus Christ. The one that He said that He would build and the gates of hell would not conquer it. Math 16:18

WE must come to the place that we STOP referring to the building that we go fellowship at “the church.” It’s NOT the church! It is a building that contains a specific body of people.

WE ARE THE CHURCH!

In the book of Acts 3:12-26 Peter gave an outstanding message that dropped everyone who was at the Temple (church) to their knees. They had heard the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ and were totally swept away by conviction of what they had done that was wrong. They had killed the Prince of Life and chose instead to release a murderer. But how is it that we have killed the Prince of Life you say! We have made Jesus’s church a building and have attempted to kill His mission for the world. The church building contains no power of itself. Well maybe the electricity!

The Power that Jesus promised can only be lived through the lives of His people. After Peter delivered his message for the second time over 5,000 people came to the Lord that day. The people were the church that was growing and not the other way around. Peter gave them an out when he said;

Act 3:17 “Friends, I realize that what you did to Jesus was done in ignorance; and the same can be said of your leaders.

We know the word ignorance means “without knowledge” and the fact that you have actually read this far now voids you of ignorance. You now know! If we are to see the world come to Christ just as in Peter’s day we need to start: being the Church! One last thing! Instead of being angry at this post I would just ask that you take some time and sit before the Lord and ask Him “Lord have I done this?” And whatever answer HE gives you, then you are sure to have it cleared up before Him with the help of V:19

Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,  Act 3:19

Jesus is going to take back HIS Church and we all have an opportunity to join Him in the work that He is doing. It is time to stop catering to people with gimmicks and ploys to try to get people in the seats and get on our knees & repent. We all need to repent of our thought process’s from past teachings of building “our church” and ask Jesus what He wants.

It is time for us to become the vessels that He has created for the purpose of completing the body so His work will get done. Let us guard our hearts against telling others “hey why don’t you come visit my church!” BE the church that Jesus wants and then they will come because of Him!

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”Eph 2:10
